First Lady Sen. Remi Tinubu emphasized that her husband, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, is not responsible for Nigeria’s current economic difficulties, stating that the administration is still in its early stages. During an event at the Palace of Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, she remarked, “We are just 18 months into our administration; we are not the cause of the current situation.”

She attributed the economic issues to the recent elimination of fuel subsidies, which saw gasoline prices soar from N198 to N1,030 per liter. In her speech, Tinubu expressed optimism for the future, saying, “With God on our side, in the next two years, Nigeria will be greater than this,” and highlighted the importance of hard work, asserting, “There is no food for the lazy man.”

She encouraged Nigerians to remain hopeful and patient as the government works towards stabilizing the economy. Her comments were part of a ceremony marking the opening of a road and hostel at Ọbafẹmi Awolọwọ University, where she also donated N1 billion for the university’s development.
