During a recent session of the House of Representatives, George Ozodinobi, who represents Anambra State, voiced grave concerns about Nigeria’s escalating living costs. He argued that the newly implemented minimum wage of N70,000 is inadequate for civil servants, particularly in light of a recent fuel price hike that has made daily life increasingly challenging.
“Somebody who is earning N70,000 a month… cannot last him for three days,” he asserted, highlighting the urgent need for a reevaluation of economic policies. Ozodinobi shared a personal example of his driver’s daily transport cost rising from N3,000 to N6,000, underscoring the financial pressures faced by many families.
He called for immediate action to address these hardships, stressing that the ability to transport food and basic goods has also been severely impacted, further complicating the economic landscape for citizens.
