The Nigerian Army has dismissed six soldiers for allegedly fleeing a Boko Haram attack in Damboa, Borno State.

The soldiers, part of Operation Lafiya Dole, reportedly ran out of ammunition and retreated. The dismissed soldiers are PTE Olaniyi Emmanuel, PTE Masa’udu Adamu, PTE Abdul Azee Saleh, PTE Mohammed Mohammed, PTE Adah Toye, and PTE Hassan Abubakar.

A military source criticized the dismissals as unfair, arguing that the soldiers had no choice but to flee due to a lack of ammunition. The source highlighted ongoing issues with inadequate equipment and insufficient firepower, which not only compromised the soldiers’ ability to defend themselves but also led to the deaths of over 10 troops during the attack. The incident raises broader concerns about the military’s preparedness and resource allocation in the fight against Boko Haram.
