In a candid interview with Channels TV, General Christopher Musa, the Chief of Defence Staff, disclosed a stark reality — soldiers, irrespective of rank, receive a mere N1,200 per day while on active duty.

Startlingly, this amounts to less than N50,000 as a monthly salary for many soldiers. General Musa emphasized the critical need for better compensation, expressing concerns over the lack of adequate barracks despite a consistent influx of recruits into the military over the past few years. He stressed the necessity for improved accommodations, citing the demanding operational conditions soldiers face.

Amidst ongoing operations, the General highlighted the stark disparity in pay between officers and soldiers. He underscored the urgency for fair compensation that aligns with the immense sacrifices and duties performed by military personnel.

The revelation underscores a pressing need for immediate attention to the welfare and remuneration of Nigeria’s devoted soldiers, shedding light on a concerning reality often overlooked.
