Omoyele Sowore, the convener of the #RevolutionNow movement, has been released after being detained by the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos.

Sowore was held upon arrival from the United States due to his name being flagged on a watchlist by the Department of State Services (DSS). His passport was confiscated as officials awaited further instructions. He confirmed, “I have just been released. My passport and everything have been returned to me.”

Sowore’s detention sparked immediate reactions, with members of the Take It Back Movement and activists gathering at the airport to protest. Before his return, Sowore had been in the U.S. with his family. His flight left Washington Dulles International Airport and arrived in Lagos at 9:43 WAT.
