An incident that has occurred on August 16, 2024, more than 20 medical and dental students, along with a House Officer, were kidnapped by gunmen in Benue State.
The students were en route to the Federation of Catholic Medical and Dental Students (FECAMDS) annual convention in Enugu when they were ambushed around 5:30 p.m. near Otukpo. The group included students from the University of Maiduguri and University of Jos, who were traveling together in a convoy.
The Benue State Police Command has confirmed the kidnapping. SP Catherine Anene remarked, “Yes, the report of kidnapping is true. The report was received around 5:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., and an investigation is ongoing.” The authorities are currently working to locate and rescue the victims, while local security agencies intensify their efforts in response to the alarming situation.
