Peter Obi, the Labour Party (LP) leader, has condemned the recent Edo State governorship election, calling it a “blatant example of state capture.” In a strong statement on his X handle, Obi criticized those responsible for undermining Nigeria’s democracy, particularly the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

He warned that society will eventually retaliate against the individuals perpetuating the flawed electoral process. He specifically urged lecturers and officials involved to reflect on their roles in damaging the country’s democratic foundation, cautioning that the consequences of their actions will haunt future generations.

Obi expressed concern over the misuse of electoral technologies like IReV and BVAS, which he believes must be properly implemented to ensure fair elections. He reiterated his commitment to building a truly democratic Nigeria, emphasizing that the pursuit of power should not come at the expense of the nation’s future.
