The House of Representatives has taken a decisive stance against sports betting, calling for its prohibition in Nigeria.

Led by Rep. Kelechi Nwogu, the House urged the National Lottery Regulatory Commission to enforce existing laws, citing concerns over mental health issues, crime rates, and even suicides linked to excessive gambling. The move includes a nationwide campaign to raise awareness and a call for legislative action following a public hearing.

The resolution aims to curb the negative impact of sports betting, which sees millions of Nigerians spending billions annually, as revealed by data from the National Lottery Trust Fund.
