Human rights activist Omoyele Sowore is under threat of arrest after being placed on a security watchlist by the Department of State Services (DSS). This action follows his involvement in the recent #EndBadGovernance protests and plans for a demonstration on October 1.

The new DSS Director General, Adeola Ajayi, has instructed airport security to arrest Sowore upon his return to Nigeria. In response, Sowore stated, “I have been told by several sources that my name is on their watchlist… but this will not stop me from returning to my country.”

He also criticized the DSS for focusing on political issues instead of addressing Nigeria’s widespread insecurity, adding, “They are prioritizing vendettas over the real problems facing the nation.” Efforts to reach DSS spokesperson Peter Afunanya for comment were unsuccessful.
