The Supreme Court has confirmed the reelection of Governor Hope Uzodinma of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the Governor of Imo State. On Friday, August 23, a five-member panel of the court dismissed the appeals from both the Labour Party (LP) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), along with their candidates, Athan Achonu and Samuel Anyanwu.

In the lead judgment, Justice Mohammed Baba Idris stated that “the appellants failed to prove their case as required,” leading the court to rule that the appeals lacked merit. He added that the issues raised for determination by the appellants were “resolved against them.”

This unanimous judgment brings an end to the legal challenges against Uzodinma’s victory and solidifies his position as the legitimate winner of the last governorship election in Imo State. The ruling is expected to have significant implications for the political landscape in the state
