President Bola Tinubu is set to implement a significant cabinet reshuffle, with plans to scrap the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation. According to sources close to the Presidency, the move is aimed at improving government efficiency by eliminating underperforming ministries and restructuring others for better output.

One insider revealed, “The Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs may be scrapped because there are several agencies that are performing those functions already, so he sees no need for it.” Established in 2019, the ministry has been criticized for inefficiency and corruption, including the suspension of its current minister, Dr. Betta Edu, over allegations of mismanaging funds.

The reshuffle goes beyond simply switching portfolios; some ministries are expected to be merged, split, or dissolved entirely. “It is confirmed. There is a particular portfolio that has to be split into two. Others will be merged, and some will be scrapped,” another source noted. This overhaul is expected to occur before Tinubu departs for the United Nations General Assembly. Amid these plans, reports suggest that ministers are lobbying their political backers to secure their positions in the reshuffled cabinet.
