Six protesters have been fatally shot and many others injured in Suleja, Niger State during a demonstration against economic hardships.

The violence erupted as security forces attempted to clear a blockade on the Abuja-Kaduna highway. Among the deceased was Yahaya Nda Isah, a resident who was reportedly hit by a stray bullet while riding his bike near the protest area. His nephew expressed sorrow, stating, “He was not even protesting. It’s unfortunate.”

Niger State Police spokesperson, SP Wasiu Abiodun, confirmed that additional security measures were taken to disperse the protesters and prevent further chaos.
