A tragic incident unfolded at Abia State Polytechnic as a tanker fatally crushed Ezekiel Mary Ogechi, a recent accounting graduate, while she was completing her academic clearance in preparation for the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) scheme.
Despite achieving academic distinction and receiving a scholarship for further studies, Ogechi’s promising future was cut short when she was hit by a tricycle and then crushed by a fast-moving truck while crossing the road.
The news sparked protests among students, prompting intervention from the institution’s management and the Students Union Government. As of now, both the Polytechnic management and the Abia State Police Command are yet to issue an official statement on the tragic incident.
