William Troost-Ekong, the Super Eagles’ stalwart defender, has been crowned the standout player of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) by the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

Despite Nigeria’s 2-1 loss to Cote d’Ivoire in the final, Troost-Ekong’s stellar performance throughout the tournament earned him this prestigious accolade. With three crucial goals and an outstanding defensive record, Troost-Ekong led Nigeria to their first AFCON final since 2013.

Other notable winners include South Africa’s Ronwen Williams as the best goalkeeper, Equatorial Guinea’s Emilio Nsue as the top goal scorer, and Simon Adingra of Ivory Coast as the best young player. The tournament’s best coach award went to Emerse Faé of Ivory Coast, while South Africa clinched the Fair Play Team award.
