The Director General of NAFDAC, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, identified several reasons for Nigerian food product rejections in the UK, including non-compliance with NAFDAC’s guidelines and exporters’ unwillingness to meet minimal sanitary measures. In response, NAFDAC held a meeting with the UK Food Standard Agency during the Nigeria-UK Enhanced Trade & Investment Partnership workshop. The agency discussed issues like non-notifications of rejections, mutual recognition of electronic certifications, and the need for adherence to NAFDAC’s quality control and safety tests for exported food products. To address these challenges, NAFDAC is implementing six regulatory measures to ensure the safety and quality of exported products, emphasizing the importance of complying with destination countries’ requirements to prevent economic losses from rejections. NAFDAC had previously revealed that over 70% of Nigerian food exports were being rejected abroad, highlighting concerns about the state of export trade facilitation for regulated products leaving the country. #OMAGIST@AFRICAWORLDNEWS*
