Over 100 houses were destroyed in a cooking gas explosion in Jamata, Lokoja Local Government Area, Kogi State, causing extensive damage to properties valued at millions of naira.

The incident prompted Commissioner for Solid Minerals and Natural Resources, Bashir Abubakar Gegu, to express sorrow and urge residents to adhere strictly to gas safety rules to prevent such accidents. He assured the victims of prompt and sustained assistance from the state government.

This incident occurred just hours after a minor fire outbreak at the Dangote Refinery in Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos State. The fire, located at the refinery’s effluent treatment plant, was quickly contained without any injuries. Dangote Group’s Chief Branding and Communication Officer, Anthony Chiejina, confirmed the situation was under control, and the refinery continues to operate normally.
