Thousands of Palestinians in Khan Younis, Gaza, were forced to flee once more after the Israeli military ordered another mass evacuation on Thursday. Families, some without transport, carried essential items on foot as they sought refuge from the ongoing conflict.

Many, like Ghazi Abu Daka, who has been displaced four times, and Yasser Abu Alyan, who has moved six times, expressed despair at the lack of safe places to shelter their children. The United Nations estimates that nearly 1.9 million of Gaza’s 2.1 million residents are internally displaced. The latest evacuation was prompted by Israeli plans to launch new operations in response to Palestinian rocket fire. The ongoing conflict, triggered by Hamas’ October 7 attack on Israel, has resulted in nearly 40,000 Palestinian deaths.
