Russian President Vladimir Putin has unexpectedly endorsed U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris in the upcoming November presidential election, pointing to her “infectious” laugh as the reason for his support over former President Donald Trump.
The endorsement comes amidst U.S. Justice Department charges against two Russians for allegedly attempting to influence the election through pro-Russian propaganda.
Putin’s public statement has drawn widespread attention and sparked speculation over whether this could be a political maneuver. U.S. intelligence agencies have previously indicated that Russia may favor Trump due to his perceived reluctance to fully support Ukraine in its ongoing war with Russia.
While Putin’s endorsement has raised eyebrows, many analysts believe it could be a calculated effort to create confusion and discredit Harris by playing mind games, further complicating an already contentious U.S. election.
