Five men have been shot dead at a taxi rank in Vredebes in Ceres after three unidentified suspects opened fire on a taxi.

Confirming the incident, Police spokesperson, Novela Potelw has said in a statement that four men have died today after unknown gunmen opened fire on a taxis in Ceres.

The four died on the scene and another later in hospital.

Preliminary investigations in the shooting spree have revealed that the incident is related to the ongoing conflict in the taxi industry.

Police have since beefed their presence in the area to restore law and order as detectives heighten their pursual of several leads.
