Severe floods in northern Sudan have claimed the lives of at least 31 people over the past two days, with hundreds of homes destroyed.
Sudanese Civil Defense DC spokesperson Qureshi Hussein confirmed the death toll, while Yassin Abdul Wahab, a local resident, described the dire situation, saying, “People are sleeping in the streets, and the situation is very bad.”
Heavy rains and floods have affected over 317,000 people this month, displacing 118,000, worsening an already dire humanitarian crisis amidst ongoing conflict between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
The country marked 500 days since the conflict began, further complicating rescue and relief efforts in the flood-affected regions. The widespread devastation has left many families struggling to find shelter and basic necessities.
