Three Valencia fans received eight-month jail sentences for racially abusing Real Madrid’s Vinicius Junior, marking Spain’s first conviction for racist conduct at a football match.

The offenders, convicted of racially motivated discrimination, were also banned from matches for two years. Despite the sentences, none will serve time due to their lack of prior criminal records.

La Liga praised the ruling as a significant step against racism, reinforcing its commitment to prosecuting such offenses. The incident occurred during a May 2023 match, prompting immediate action from stadium officials. Real Madrid acknowledged the fans’ subsequent apology.
