Early days of general elections campaigns have come under the threat of thuggery and defacing of campaign materials.

As the country gears up for August 12 polls, the main opposition United Party for National Development -UPND- has bemoaned the torching of its campaign billboards by alleged ruling Patriotic Front-PF-cadres in the capital, Lusaka.

Confirming the development, Zambia Police Spokesperson Esther Mwata Katongo has warned political rivals against torching and defacing of campaign materials adding that police have launched investigations to bring to book culprits behind the burnt UPND billboards.
