The remains of Suzyo Nyika, former President Edgar Lungu’s friend, were exhumed Tuesday by state police in Lundazi district of Eastern Province, an act which has outraged the family, local media reported early Wednesday.

Nyika’s family described the exhumation as opening of the fresh wound.

Police action followed suspicions that Nyika was still alive and living in the neighboring South Africa at the time was wanted for concealing huge sums of dollars.

A source within police told Africaworld Reports that there was a belief that the Ex-president’s associate was alive and that dollars may have been buried in the grave purportedly to be his.

A close family member told the local Daily Nation that contrary to assertions, no dollars were found in the coffin or graveyard.

Nyika reportedly died last year before the former government was kicked out of power.
